Building, Dwelling, Thinking
Conferences in the Architecture Gallery of Cersaie 2009

“Building, Dwelling, Thinking” is the name of the largest architecture programme ever organised at Cersaie, the international exhibition to be held in Bologna from 29 September to 3 October this year. Along with the keynote address to be given by Renzo Piano (1 October, Palazzo dei Congressi), a packed programme of events will be hosted in the Architecture Gallery (Services Centre. Block D) with talks by more than 50 speakers.

Ceramic tiles, a key role in habitats, new trends in design is the first architecture conference (Tuesday 29 September, 2.00 p.m.) which will seek to take stock of the use of Italian ceramic tiles in modern styles of design.
Retrofit: energy remediation of existing buildings (Wednesday 30 September, 10.00 a.m.) will explore the theme of energy efficiency of buildings as a contribution to sustainable development.

Attention to the environment and its integration with buildings is the theme of Living in Nature, the conference to be held on Wednesday 30 September at 2.00 p.m., while the sustainability of ceramic tiles will be discussed in S_tiles: communicating sustainability (1 October, 2.00 p.m.).

Living in the Desert (Thursday 1 October, 4.00 p.m.) will illustrate several minimalist architecture projects in the American landscape that have made use of Italian ceramic tiles.

Living in emergencies addresses the theme of living in makeshift situations, a theme rendered highly topical by the many disasters that have occurred worldwide (Friday 2 October, 9.30 a.m.).

The conference Man and the city (Friday 2 October, 2.00 p.m.) will focus on the multiethnic society where citizens of different countries live side by side without frontiers.

Friday’s events will be concluded with Living the future (4.00 p.m.), a conference discussing the needs and challenges faced by future generations.

On Saturday 3 October (10.00 a.m.) Understanding modernity. Protection of modern architecture as a cornerstone of contemporary projects will discuss viewpoints and criteria behind action.

The conferences will come to an end with Living the Web at 11.00 a.m., which will analyse the Internet and its applications in the field of architecture.

The extremely high profile of this series of events is demonstrated by the speakers, who include Alfonso Acocella, Giacomo Bizzarri, Stefano Boeri, Veronica dal Buono, Ian Davis, Giuliano Gresleri, Stefan Hitthaler, Michael P. Johnson, Fulvio Irace, Franco La Cecla, Orazio Lo Presti, Alessandro Marata, Carlo Massarini, Marco Mulazzani, Paolo Rava, Aldo Schiavone and Luigi Zoja.
