As a key player in the world of contemporary architecture, the Italian ceramic tile industry is returned to Progetto Cittą, the biennial exhibition of architecture, urban planning, territorial development technologies and services, helded in Milan from 30 March to 2 April 2005. The show’s opening coincided with the inauguration of the new Milan exhibition centre, designed by Massimiliano Fuksas and Mario Bellini in the Rho – Pero area, an outstanding example of futuristic design of public spaces.
The participation of the Italian ceramic tile industry centres on the Ceramiche Italiane institutional stand, located in the section ‘Quality of the Territory, Urban Furnishing and Green Areas’, which was designed by architect Dante Donegani from Domus Academy. This institutional stand, where staff from the Centro Ceramico Bologna will offer technical and scientific information to visitors, will showcase several experimental projects carried out using ceramic tiles. It was served as an info point for the sector and Italian products and as a distribution point for the wide range of information tools available: Cer Punti Vendita Italia, the book ‘How and Why’, the CD-ROM ‘Products and Projects’, and the manuals ‘Ceramic tiles in urban spaces’, ‘Ceramic tiles in public spaces. Application manual’ and ‘S_tyles. Italian tiles towards sustainability’. One aspect of particular interest is the area reserved for consultation and distribution of ceramic companies’ brochures, press releases and catalogues showcasing all the latest new products.
This show, now in its third edition, offers a unique opportunity to reflect on global land development through a number of different theme sections. These include the mobility system and infrastructures, sports facilities, swimming pools and fitness, urban furnishing, green areas and public utilities. In this context, the Italian ceramic tile industry plays an important role in projects such as urban architecture; office, commercial and sports complexes; redevelopment of public spaces; and territorial and environmental conservation through the use of eco-compatible materials. The show was scheduled to coincide with Expo Italia Real Estate, the first Italian show specifically devoted to the theme of property development. All the players in this arena will make contributions, including awarding authorities, institutions, banks, and real estate promotion and development companies. The initiatives aim to raise the standard of urban living, an area in which Italian ceramic tiles have long been important partners for designers and building contractors and provide the perfect solution to the needs of cutting-edge design.
