Under the banner of Ceramic Tiles of Italy, in collaboration with the Ministry for Economic Development and the Italian Trade Commission, Confindustria Ceramica will be taking part in ICFF 2009, the most important of contemporary design events scheduled for 16 - 19 May in New York at the Jacob Javits Convention Centre. Being both a showcase and an opportunity to confirm the leading role of Italian design, ICFF in New York is aimed at architects and interior designers. This exhibition in the Big Apple is of the utmost importance for home furnishing and interior design professionals, providing them with new stimuli and ideas to drive their innovative creativity on into new territory.
The association will be present for the first time, with a collective exhibition set up within the Italian area “I Saloni Worldwide New York”, with a Ceramic Tiles of Italy stand designed by the architect Michele De Lucchi. Inside the 330 square metre image stand, which will also be used for distributing promotional material and the Cer Magazine International, 13 Italian companies will be represented with their own customised space: Casalgrande Padana, Ceramica Del Conca, Ceramica Lord, Ceramica Sant’Agostino, Ceramiche Caesar, Ceramiche Refin, Ceramiche Settecento Valtresinaro, Etruria design, Fap Ceramiche, Impronta Ceramiche, Marazzi Tecnica, Tagina Ceramiche d’Arte.
A number of collateral events will be organised around the Italian presence at ICFF, both in the convention centre and elsewhere in the city. The main event in the Convention Centre itself will be the encounter set for Sunday 17 May at 14.00 in the ICFF Theatre, during which the architect Michele De Lucchi will be interviewed by the curator of the MOMA Paola Antonelli. De Lucchi will also be present at the stand for an encounter with the local press. Scheduled for Monday 18 May at 12.30, at the Ceramic Tiles of Italy stand, is an appointment with dealers, while in the early afternoon – again at the stand – there will be the presentation by the journalist Jen Renzi of a book dedicated to Italian tiles. Outside of the Convention Centre, on 17 May at Showroom 414 in the Meatpacking district, there will be the inauguration of “Ceramic Tiles of Italy Design Competition”, where visitors will be able to see pictures of the architecture projects that won the competition organised by Confindustria Ceramica and the Italian Trade Commission. At the end of the day, the Meatpacking area, given over to the Fuori Salone parties and events, will be playing host to the soirée laid on by the architecture and design magazine Surface, sponsored, amongst others, by Ceramic Tiles of Italy.
Of particular importance is the publicity that has surrounded the exhibition and the collateral events scheduled around it, which have featured widely in the local papers, as well, of course, on the web portal www.italiantiles.com. The event has also helped raise awareness in the sales network in the New York area, in order to create a link between the companies’ presence at the fair and the Fuori Salone initiatives.
The participation of Ceramic Tiles of Italy in the ICFF 2009 image exhibition provides confirmation of the interest of the Italian ceramic tiles industry in the United States as a leading market and bears witness to the commitment at institutional and entrepreneurial level to maintaining the high level of excellence that allows Italian-made ceramics to rise to the challenge posed by competition on international markets. Consumers in the USA and elsewhere continue to see Italian-made products as being synonymous with a sophisticated lifestyle, creativity and quality workmanship.
