Batimat Mosbuild 2005, Moscow, Russia
4 - 7 April 2005

For several years now, Russia has been one of the new frontiers for Italian ceramic tile producers. Following success in the United States, currently the leading foreign market for Italian exports, ceramic sector entrepreneurs are now exploiting the many opportunities offered by the rapidly expanding Russian market. This includes participation in Mosbuild 2005, the eleventh edition of the leading Russian exhibition for the building and interiors industry.

This show is one of the foremost meeting forums in the building and construction sector in Russia, with particular importance for ceramic tile and natural stone. This year a total of 35 Italian producer companies took part in Mosbuild (a number that has increased steadily in recent years), where they were accommodated in Halls 1 and 2 in the Expocenter alongside the bathroom furnishing and tap producers.

The Italian tile industry first began selling its products on the Russian market before the fall of the Berlin wall, although dealings became more firmly established after the mid 1990s, largely as a result of an intense promotional campaign aimed specifically at this and other markets in Eastern Europe. With Vladimir Putin as Russian President, relations have further improved and intensified. For the three hundredth anniversary of the foundation of St. Petersburg in October 2003, Assopiastrelle and the Italian Trade Commission ICE donated the refurbished floor covering in the Passazh Gallery to the city. And in recent months tile production has started up in two important factories built by leading Italian ceramic groups in the Malino area, 70 kilometres from Moscow.
